This hike takes you from Finikounda (Φοινικούντα) to Koroni (Κορώνη) in about 6 hours. It offers magnificent panoramas, first on the south coast and the Oinousses Islands, then on the Gulf of Messenia and the Mani Peninsula. The route invites you to cross some particularly authentic villages (Kaplani, Iamia, Charakopio). The climb to Kaplani is the hardest part, the following is easier. Nevertheless, if the hike seems a bit long, it should be possible to spend the night in the vicinity of Charakopio where several accommodation solutions exist.

➀ Walk along Finikounda beach (Φοινικούντα) by taking the main street to the east. At the end of the street, climb the steep slope of the staircase which leads you to a cornice road which you take on the right, and which offers you a view overlooking the beach of Ligonammos. After 600 m, you arrive on the main road which leads to Koroni. You will have to follow it for 600 m, the right shoulder being easily passable on foot. Be vigilant, even if at this point the visibility of motorists is excellent. Before entering a long left turn, turn left towards Grizocampos / Grizocabos (Γριζοκαμπος).
After 1.5 km on this small road, turn right at the crossroads with a fountain. The road rises gradually to take you to the village of Kaplani, after almost 200 m of ascent over 2 km. Magnificent panorama over the plain, the coast and the Oinousses Islands.
➁ Kaplani (Καπλάνι), 2h 2 hours from Finikounda. Pretty village, one restaurant. If it is closed, treat yourself to a break in the shade of the imposing plane tree located within the church grounds. At the exit of the village, turn left towards Koroni (Κορώνη). After 300 m, take the path to the right, just before a stone marker. Follow this path eastward, leaving out those pointing north and south. 700 m further, the path rises in an olive grove, please go on. Above the olive grove, turn right where you can guess a path that you follow for a few tens of meters. Go up a little to the left, on your right you have a track which descends rapidly, and on your left another track which rises through a field. Follow the latter, then turn right at the fork located 300 m further on. The track leads you to the heights of the village of Iamia.
➂ Iamia (Υάμεια), 1h from Kaplani. An authentic village which benefits from a pleasant little café which also serves as a grocery store. At the top of the village, take the path that heads east. You climb gently towards the summit of the day, before starting the descent of a hundred meters. At a bend, you enjoy the first views of the Gulf of Messenia and the Mani Peninsula. Meet the main road, and follow it east. After 1.5 km, in the right turn at the top of the small pass, take the track that goes to the left. Superb descent with the village of Charokopio and the Gulf of Messenia in focus. In the hollow of the bed of a stream, paths go in 3 opposite directions: continue straight. You then reach a road that leads you quickly to Charokopio.
➃ Charokopio (Χαροκοπιό), 1h30 from Iamia. A choice stopover: an authentic village, several restaurants and cafes, 2 groceries. Cross the village then just after the sign indicating Gargarou beach (παραλία Γαργαρou), turn right among the olive groves. A long track will lead you along a stream straight to the east, in the middle of olive trees and a few houses. After 3 km, you come to an important crossroads: go straight ahead towards Koroni. The road leads into the center of the village, but as it can get quite busy you can take a quieter parallel street by turning right 200m after the crossroads and then left. 1 km further, you arrive on the heights of Koroni, where you will have the joy of choosing among the maze of streets and stairs those that will take you down to the port.
➄ Koroni (Κορώνη), 1h30 from Charokopio.
